Unfortunately, it makes sense that 12 Step participation is the treatment most likely to set off an OD, with its concept of "powerlessness" and "God's will" determining actions, members are not likely to be as cautious when they binge as someone who is prepared for cravings with Fentanyl test strips and Naloxone to reverse the OD.
IM is characterised by three perspectives that are applied in each step: participation of all relevant stakeholders in intervention planning [ 28], using theory and evidence, and using an ecological approach, meaning that all relevant individuals, groups and organisations that are related to the health problem are considered as target groups or implementers of the intervention [ 29].
This study examined religious coping, opioid use, and 12-step participation among 45 participants receiving inpatient opioid detoxification at baseline and follow-up.

However, the results of the longitudinal analysis (which included families who participated in the home observations at both Time 1 and Time 2) indicated that Healthy Steps participation was associated with greater security of attachment and fewer child behavior problems.
Conclusions: Young adult 12-step participation confers recovery benefit; yet, while encouraging social network change, 12-step MHOs may be less able to provide social network change directly for young adults, perhaps because similar-aged peers are less common in MHOs.
