The most important advice a survivor parent like me can give to a senior family is to stop reading right this minute, get up off the couch, grab the kids, and go do something.

If you can't sleep after 20 minutes, get up and go to a different room.
When all else fails, get out of bed – If you find yourself unable to sleep after lying in bed for more than 20 minutes, get up and move to another room.
