Two phenomena may explain the discrepancy, namely (i) damage coalescence beyond a threshold level, and (ii) the incapacity of the matrix to sustain large hydrostatic stresses, which results from the presence of internal surfaces (cracked particles and possibly matrix voiding).
The main causes of discrepancies, namely, scale, anisotropy and water saturation are considered.
Two factors may account for the observed discrepancies: namely (1) differences in strategies, and (2) differences in Tol2 targeting preferences in HEK 293 and HeLa cells.
This discrepancy may have resulted from the use of two different c-Flip antibodies, namely antibody (Ab) # 06-864 (Gilbett et al., 2004) and Ab # 06-697 (Ku and Omary, 2006).
It is possible that the main source of this discrepancy between the two methods is the extremely low number of SNVs at chr2 84,660,000-84,720,000, namely 31 SNVs in the 60 kb interval.
But why this discrepancy?
This discrepancy cannot stand.
