The briefing states that "the online news environment is characterised by aggregation of news stories by third party players who repackage, serve, link to and monetise that content".
But the fact that the service has been accounted for at all puts it in an elite group of third party players given priority on Apple's mobile operating system — most notably Twitter, which was integrated into iOS 5 back in 2011 (and subsequently saw a huge bump in new user registrations), and Facebook, which was integrated into iOS 6 last year.
That is, the necessary third party player for all news organizations.
Today, though, a large third party player enters the fray: a Qualcomm subsidiary, FLO TV, has just announced that they are expanding their service nationwide.
"The difference is that because of our size, and the agendas in many cases of those external to Wal-Mart, there are more third-party players who are developing opinions about us".
Embedding third-party players will be extended to other offerings, including other video-sharing sites.

Now, SkyPhrase and its team will likely be focused more on helping improve Yahoo products, rather than building a tech that's aimed at giving third-party players more access to refined NLP tech.
With a number of third-party players getting involved in this space on other platforms, it will be interesting to see if these features drive more enterprise takeup of PlayBooks.
Apps, movies and music would all potentially download faster if Apple controlled the entire chain, for instance, since it has to spend less time dealing with third-party players outside of its corporate domain, which invariably add delays, miscommunications and possible points of failure into the mix.
"My deep feeling in talking to people who are close to Apple or to developers is that they're just having such a hard time keeping the pace with the growth of the App Store itself and making everything work, I think there are few resources at Apple right now invested in app discovery, so I think there's more room than ever for third-party players".
