A full-thickness square bone defect, 2 × 2 cm, was created bilaterally at temporal bone by using a bur under extensive cooling with saline).
The dorsal skin was shaved and then disinfected with 10% povidone-iodine before an excisional full-thickness square-shaped skin wound (3.5 × 3.5 cm) was induced using a sterile scalpel (down to the panniculus carnosus).
Volume is related to two length scales, namely thickness and square root of area (L2).
The a1/a2 domains are found to distribute periodically and its width increases with increasing film thickness following square root rule.
This suggests a simple explanation of preservation being proportional to deposit thickness and square root of the deposit area.

The required self-supporting 58Ni foil of 200 400 μg/cm2 thickness and a square area of 6.2 can can be prepared by rolling.
