We have proposed that this effect may be due to a thicker space-charge-region at the surface of the ZnO N, different charge carrier lifetimes induced by the nitrogen dopant, different ZnO and ZnO N film orientations, or a combination of these factors.
We expect that this thicker space-charge region at the surface of the ZnO N will result in more efficient hole transport to the oxide surface and hence more efficient de-trapping of surface species (electrons and adsorbed molecules) that inhibit the transfer of photogenerated electrons from the polymer to the oxide.
