This new development supports various views of performance throughout the building life cycle in relation to performance domains such as energy consumption, lighting availability, occupant comfort (thermal, visual), room acoustics and the environmental impacts related to the construction materials and fuel streams over the whole building life span.
Outstanding pieces of architecture, e.g. Kolumba Art Museum, Cologne (architect P. Zumthor), Emil-Schumacher-Museum, Hagen (architect M. Lindemann), are presented and integrated advanced technologies like thermal active room surfaces, low air change ventilation, geothermal heating and cooling, and controlled daylighting are explained.
For thermal stimulation, room temperature was decreased from 27°C (neutral temperature) to 10°C.
We have found that when a temperature difference of 7°C existed between the rooms, inter-room thermal convective flows predicted by CFD and qualitatively verified experimentally were important enough to transport airborne contamination into the positive pressure treatment room when the access door was opened, despite an initial 35 Pa pressure difference between the rooms when the doors are closed.
