An emerging theme that results from such a wide array of investigations is that regardless of the underlying mechanisms used to infect the gastrointestinal tract, all these diverse pathogens have successfully evolved to evade and modulate the host defense systems for their own gain.
The coders modified the codebook as new codes emerged, met frequently to compare disagreements, and negotiated final codes to achieve consensus that resulted in themes and categories.
While the first author did a detailed analysis shortly after the interviews that resulted in narrative themes, some years have passed since then, and that might be viewed as a limit.
