This method of comparison can be applied to all sort of distant, theoretically incomparable objects, such as countries, sites, contexts, themes, populations and policies, as exemplified by J. Diamond's comparison of societies which had experienced some sort of "collapse" (Diamond 2005).
The short "Na poeira das ruas" addresses a contemporary theme: A population of marginalized black and white people.
Countries were compared according to the following variables: number of papers in three databases (ISI, Medline, PsycInfo); number of citations and citations per papers in ISI; number of first authors identified in Medline and PsycInfo; type of research; publication theme; and population studied.
The findings of the study may be useful to design prevention programs that target specific themes and/or populations.
