Three remote and isolated First Nations communities were included in the present study since residents had verbally expressed an interest in modifying their community-level pandemic plans to better address their unique living conditions during the next public health emergency.
Thus, the objective of the present study was to elicit and address First Nations community members' suggested modifications to their community-level pandemic plans after the 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic.
While the evaluators were unable to find out exactly why the TRCS had had this mandate taken away (in October 2010), it is suggested that they have considerably more experience in such activities, and in addition to their community-level structures and volunteer base, the Red Cross still offers significant skills and experience to the emergency response inputs in Tanzania.
