Despite persistent appeals from policymakers and politicians to increase the number of college graduates in the United States, a new report projects a shortfall of nearly 24 million degree-holders by 2025.
In 2008 (the last year data are available), 7.87 million graduate degree holders were underemployed (that is, employed in jobs requiring less than a graduate degree).
While North Carolina leads the way in early-college high schools, the model is spreading in California, New York, Texas and elsewhere, where such schools are seen as a promising approach to reducing the high school dropout rate and increasing the share of degree holders two major goals of the Obama administration.
The data was collected by five BSc degree holder midwives, one in each referral hospital.
The aim is to create jobs for the unemployed college degree holders.

The two scores show a similar pattern to that seen for the EQ dimensions, with degree holders reporting better health than non-degree holders (P < 0.05 for EQ-5D-5L IndEQ-5D-5LD-5L VAS, EQ-5D-3L Index and EQ-5D-3L Vand, and male respondents having higher scores (better health) than female respondents (difference only statistically significant for EQ-5D-3L Index, at P < 0.05).
Sixty percent of its degree holders go into the nonprofit sector.
About 40percentt of the nation's 9.6 million humanities bachelor's degree holders go on to get graduate or professional degrees, increasing their median annual incomes by $19,550 still a smaller premium than is earned by anyone else with graduate degrees, except professionals and preprofessionals the AAC&U report says.
