Based on a haematocrit of 33% (average in the study population), the corresponding CLwb/ F was 21.7 l h−1, comparable with previously published values (ranging from 21 to 38 l h−1 8– 13, 13).
Table 2 shows basic demographic characteristics of the study population and corresponding characteristics of the overall US prevalent in-center HD population.
No ethnicity information was recorded for 3 subjects (0.7%) across the study population overall, corresponding to 0% cases and 1.4% controls unclassified with respect to their ethnicity.
The socio-demographic characteristics of the study population and corresponding total population estimates are presented in Table 2. Univariate analyses suggest that there were no statistically significant differences in the risk of an injury due to medical complications by gender (P = 0.581).
The scores for every domain of the SF-36 health survey were lower for the study population than the corresponding age-adjusted norms (Table 2).
In total, 56 of the 106 defined ACG® were present in the study population, with five corresponding to 44.5% of the patients, 11 to 68.0% of patients, and 30 present in less than 0.5% of the sample.
Table 1 shows the distribution of the demographic variables in the study population, with the corresponding 5-year survival and Figure 1 shows the Kaplan Meier survival curves up to 5 years of follow up by each of the demographic variables.
The study population consisted of 1,204,791 children, corresponding to 99% of the entire cohort of Swedish children born between 1987 and 1997, with an end point of follow-up at 2 years of age.
The mean serum Se level of the study population (n=668) was 67.1 μg/l, corresponding to relatively low Se intake.
