Lift the front end of the display away from the rear case, using the top of the phone as a hinge.
Press the suction cup on to the screen, just above the home button, then pull up on the suction cup to separate the front panel assembly (just slightly) from the rear case.
Pry the rear case down.
Do not separate the front panel from the rear case yet.
Now, insert a plastic pry tool near the bottom left edge of the rear case.
There is an adhesive that holds the battery to the rear case.

If needed, use the clear plastic pull tab on the battery to peel it off the adhesive that fixes it to the iPhone rear case.
