Was "The Readies" just an avant-garde stunt, or a real proposal?
Before Jeff Bezos and the Kindle, Steve Jobs and the iPad, there was Bob Brown and "The Readies".
Ferdinand de Lesseps had just built the Suez Canal and, with Alexandre Eiffel as part of the team, had little problem raising the readies for a Panama Canal.

But today, Brown is perhaps best remembered for THE READIES (Rice University, various formats and prices), a 1930 manifesto blending the fervor of the Futurists with the playfulness of Jules Verne.
("The Readies" itself, previously available only to those who could afford one of the 150 original copies, was reissued last year by Rice University Press, which is now entirely a digital print-on-demand operation).
