The phrase 'the read data' is correct and usable in written English
You can use it to refer to data that has already been read and collected. For example: "After analyzing the read data, we determined that our assumptions were correct."
The beginning 50 bp of each quality screened Illumina read were used to align to the Newbler assembly by BOWTIE (version 0.12.7) with allowed mismatch positions of no more than 3.
