To illustrate the range of structural flexibility in the visual arrestin-1, Fig. 3A shows two structures of this protein (PDB IDs: 1AYR and 1CF1) with several loops demonstrating noticeable structural divergence.
The presence of a combination of water and methanol within the β-cages of the FAU framework decreases the range of the flexibility window not only in compression but also in extension.
This finding reveals, at least partially, the range of conformational flexibility of the RNAP, which is likely to have functional implications for the initiation of transcription, where the DNA template must be loaded into the channel (Borukhov and Lee, 2005).
