You can use "the other of" when talking about one of two things or people, where the other is already specified or implied. Example: "John chose the blue shirt, while the other of us opted for the red one." This sentence implies that there are only two people making a choice and the speaker is one of them. They are choosing different colored shirts. Another example: "The first option was too expensive, so we went with the other of the two choices." This sentence implies that there were only two choices available and the speaker chose the second one because the first one was not feasible.
