A striking feature of the result is that the d t 3−2 observations based on the large-scale array processing are quite well matched by KHOMC (Fig. 6b).
Importantly, the genes that were previously identified by our group as functionally relevant in the spleen of Cp-challenged chickens (e.g. MHC class I and II family members) were also shown to be differentially expressed using the large-scale array, confirming the technical integrity of both experiments and the biological importance of the gene families.
Although candidate gene studies have their own inherent limitations (reviewed in [ 7]), the use of smaller focused arrays possibly represents a more practical approach for many studies than the use of large scale arrays such as genome wide association studies (GWAS).
POST has however served as a flagship model for developing large scale arrays in other regions of the world through the international Ocean Tracking Network.
