In populations treated with a single antibiotic, inhibition by the antibiotics decreased within the first six transfers and remained relatively constant thereafter (Fig. 1A, C).
Because some populations did not achieve the expected final density from the small inoculum of a colony, they started to fall further and further behind with each of the first four transfers.
