The visionary leaders also included First Lady and intellectual correspondent Abigail Adams, the settlement house pioneer Jane Addams, Illinois' first suffrage group founder Susan Hoxie Richardson and tens of thousands of brave, nameless women.
At that moment "in heaven," the Chicago Tribune surmised, "the first woman suffrage leaders of almost 100 years ago, Susan B, Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, must have smiled".
