To evaluate multidrug-resistant strains of Salmonella enterica Typhimurium, including definitive type 104 (DT104) in the United States, we reviewed data from the National Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring System NARMSS).
This bacterium is classified as a definitive type I carcinogen by the World Health Organization and no effective vaccine has been found against it yet.
Recently described pathogens, such as Escherichia coli O157 H7 and the epidemic strain of Salmonella serotype Typhimurium Definitive Type 104 (which is resistant to at least five antimicrobial drugs), have become important public health problems.
However, based on Ante-mortem results and hatchery records, 8 of the 26 broiler flocks received S. Typhimurium definitive type 41 (ST41) from a Swedish parent flock, 11 flocks were in broiler houses with persistent Salmonella infections, while the remaining 7 flocks had Salmonella types, which occurred sporadically, making it difficult to trace the source of infection (Kim Gradel, pers. obs).
The definitive phage type 104 (DT104), which has often been associated with multiple-antibiotic-resistant strains with ascertained zoonotic potential and, in many countries, has increased over the past two decades [ 5], does not seem to be widely spread in water buffalo.
In the 1990s, a strain of S. Typhimurium resistant to ampicillin, chloramphenicol, streptomycin, sulfonamides, and tetracycline (R-type ACSSuT) emerged in the United States and Europe; most of these isolates were phage definitive type 104 (DT104) (2).
But just as there is no single venue or circumstance in which the Messiah will not cast its magic, there is equally no definitive type or scale of performance.

In order to evaluate whether our nested PCR cross-reacted non-specifically with Salmonella Typhimurium Definitive Type (DT 40 and DT56 variant (v), lesions from 56 greenfinches and six chaffinches confirmed to have died due to salmonellosis by microbiological examination in 2005 and 2006 (Lawson, unpublished data) were screened.
Three cat and 2 human isolates were phage typed at CDC; all were definitive type 104 (DT104).
