Gold ended $1.60 to $2.10 higher on the Comex, with the active December contract at $383.10 an ounce; the current November contract rose $2.10, to close at $381.50 an ounce.
The November contract fell 30 cents an ounce, to $386.30, on the Commodity Exchange in New York, while the active December contract slipped 20 cents, to $387.90.
That compares with 6.2 billion euros for all of August and 65.5 billion euros in January, the most active month for bond issues this year.
Consistently over time, December was the least active month within the group, while January and February were the most active.
