Brackets are used to add additional information or clarify something in a sentence. They can also be used to indicate a side note or an interruption in the sentence. Example: The party (which was supposed to be a surprise) was ruined when the guest of honor found out. In this example, the text in brackets provides additional information about the party, specifying that it was meant to be a surprise. Another example could be: I can't believe she wore that dress to the wedding (she knows it's the bride's favorite color). In this case, the text in brackets clarifies the speaker's opinion about the dress and adds context to the situation.
