My students and I have been pondering the following question: Is there a term for concepts labeled retrospectively?
"Essence" is Santayana's term for concepts and meanings.
As a consequence, there are multiple abbreviations for some terms, multiple terms for some concepts, and some concepts that lack clear definitions and/or usage.
The present core HAO data constitute 2,111 concepts, 6,977 terms (labels for concepts), 3,152 relations, 4,361 sensus (links between terms, concepts, and references) and over 6,000 text and graphical annotations.
