This study investigated short term alterations in sediment elemental composition and sediment P-fractions based on sediment cores taken 2 days before and 28 days following the application of 24 t of Phoslock® to a 9 ha, man-made reservoir.
Long term alterations in brain function have been reported which could be related to long lasting cognitive impairments associated with malnutrition [ 4].
Observations in other polyploid species, including cotton [ 32, 76], oilseed rape [ 73] and Spartina[ 80], suggest there are both immediate and long term alterations in homoeologous gene expression patterns after polyploidization.
Since the same enzymes regulate nuclear gene expression during long term alterations in the calcium signals, they thus regulate differentiation, growth, metabolic and functional specializations, and eventually shape the phenotype of the muscle cells during development and pathogenesis [ 3, 4].
We did not report any other relevant side-effect, and specifically, we did not see any short-term alteration in liver or kidney function tests.

We conclude that psychoactive drugs induce transient transcriptional program that may initiate neuroplastic alterations, but does not trigger long-term alteration in mRNA abundance levels in mature differentiated brain cells.
It is commonly described that short-term alteration in reflex excitability, occurring within hours and days after SCI, can be explained by loss of supraspinal and propriospinal inputs, by alterations in receptors and channels in motoneurons and by presynaptic terminals modulating neuronal excitability and transmitter release (Little et al., 1999; Hultborn, 2003; Frigon and Rossignol, 2006).

Chudnovsky et al (2005) recently described retroviral infection of melanocytes with combinations of genes including mutant CDK4 and hTERT, and reported no short-term alteration in proliferation in vitro, but these were recently explanted, presenescent cultures and were not tested for immortalisation.
Long-term alterations in childhood growth and development are noted.
