Because of low template numbers, typical of ancient DNA, allelic dropout was observed in 36 70% of the PCR reactions at each microsatellite marker.
In enrollment stage, when selecting templates, the number of templates is set beforehand.
The actual number of viral templates amplified with our protocol was determined for three samples (see Template Number Validation below).
