The C- and G-rich telomeric DNA strand is always the leading- and lagging-strand replication template, respectively, and induced telomere dysfunction was previously observed to be strand specific in human cells (Bailey et al, 2001; Crabbe et al, 2004; Deng et al, 2009; Dimitrova & de Lange, 2009).
