D. melanogaster is known to exhibit numerous genetic differences between populations with some life history traits indicative of temperature selection in tropical and temperate populations (body size, duration of development and offspring production) [ 31].
This species has been reported to be rapidly expanding worldwide, from tropical to temperate freshwater bodies [7].
