Children may now, for example, be diagnosed with "disruptive mood dysregulation disorder"—what used to be known as temper tantrums.
Or consider the new diagnosis of "disruptive mood dysregulation disorder" for 6- to 18-year-olds who have "severe recurrent temper outbursts manifested verbally and/or behaviorally".
One significant change would be adding a childhood disorder called temper dysregulation disorder with dysphoria, a recommendation that grew out of recent findings that many wildly aggressive, irritable children who have been given a diagnosis of bipolar disorder do not have it.
