This paper presents an approach to measure the curve distance between two points on a polyhedral surface in the manner that simulates dragging a tapeline at the two points.
Fish in each experimental tank were anesthetized with clove oil, Syzygium aromaticum (0.070 ppm; Kouřil et al. 2003) after 24 h starvation, and their body weight (g) and fork length (cm) were individually measured with a digital balance (Kern, Germany) and tapeline, respectively.
After generating the initial measurement curve through the leading points in linear computing time, an iteration algorithm is presented to approximate stretching the measurement curve on the given polyhedral surface; as an option, the obtained measurement curve can be further stretched to leave the measured surface in some concave places this looks like what a tapeline behaves in reality.

The measurement time of the protocol of the extension of MTP1-test [ 10] was optimized by refraining from using a tapeline and standardized step length.
The measurement methods of the circumferences are described in Additional file 4, where a standardized tapeline (150 cm/60 inches, Hoechstmass, Germany) was used to measure body shape.
