Taking the alignment and phylogenetic analysis of different parts of this gene at face value, it would appear that P. macrorhiza line B acquired atp1 by HGT twice, with an atp1 gene acquired from the P. sericea lineage converting a short central segment of the atp1 pseudogene acquired from Cuscuta.
