MySQL (http://www.mysql.com/) was determined to be too slow, not adequately scalable and too costly for storing many millions of articles with billions of tagging annotations attached.

To analyse the resulting tags we developed a novel approach to tag annotation, which makes best use of the publicly available sequence data.
