In recent years the health sector has seen a surge of interest in promoting the application of formal research evidence to decision making [ 11, 12], but management specialists have focused more on the contribution of implicit and tacit evidence to learning and decision making [ 13].
In terms of the generic construction process, this suggests that child poverty approaches based on the monetary method often suffer from implicit and tacit decision-making, especially with respect to purpose and concept.
We make the tacit knowledge [ 22] used by generalist practitioners to guide person-centred decision making transparent, and thus open to critical review.
Participants who were long-time employees of the hospital relied on their "own forecasting" and "personal knowledge" (or, tacit knowledge [ 32]) along with collegial relationships (internal and external) in their decision making.
Good practice including effective clinical decision making – step 4 of the EBP process – requires the explicit research evidence and non-research knowledge (tacit knowledge or accumulated wisdom).
As an a priori, evidence is context sensitive, and therefore to some extent tacit [ 78], and both global and local evidence need to be combined in the development of usable recommendations for clinical decision making [ 79].
