Ark, also called Ark Of The Law, Hebrew Aron, orAron Ha-qodesh, ("holy ark"), in Jewish synagogues, an ornate cabinet that enshrines the sacred Torah scrolls used for public worship.
In his most recent synagogue, in Aachen, the ark (a cabinet in which the Torah scrolls are kept) is made entirely of glass, and the scrolls can be glimpsed by anyone walking or driving past the building.
The scroll was discovered in 1970 in a Jewish village called En-Gedi, which was destroyed by fire around 600. Inside the community's synagogue, archaeologists discovered a Holy Ark, the cabinet where Torahs are stored.
