Corresponding data for different sweep gas flows were comparable, where a higher sweep gas flow of 16 L/minute resulted in only a slightly more effective ECCO2R compared to a lower sweep gas flow of 8 L/minute (Tables 2 and 3 and Additional file 1).
Time-variant variables were: weekly family income equivalised using Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) weights (included as a continuous variable) and an indicator for sweep of data collection in order to account for secular and age-related trends.
In several cases the AGC was fully engaged and the front-end of the receiver saturated thereby corrupting the data for that particular sweep [3].
On the other hand, the fact that a sweep was detected in the AFFXB1P data for Simmental that was not detected using the BovineSNP50 data suggests a sampling issue, since the animals genotyped with the BovineSNP50 were all full-blood whereas the 6 Simmentals genotyped with the AFFXB1P were all purebred and selected to have black coat color.
Results were similar when we reran our models by including children who had data for at least one sweep of data collection (see online supplementary table S2).
The result for Hanwoo is more interesting since the sweep was declared in Hanwoo using the BovineSNP50 data for 48 full-blood individuals but was not confirmed in the 11 full-blood individuals genotyped with the AFFXB1P data.

The models were validated using literature data for the parameters – synthesis gas compositions, time factor, sweep flow rate and steam to CO ratio.
