In contrast, delivery of 200 µg MOMP-vaults significantly reduced IFU levels isolated from vaginal swabs compared to the group immunized with GL-vaults (Fig. 7).
The higher individual loads seen in AOM swabs compared to AOMwiP swabs were unexpected.
Previous researchers have found a lower sensitivity of nasopharyngeal swabs taken through the nose using small cotton-tipped wire swabs compared to tonsillar swabs taken using larger cotton-tipped swabs (5, 6 ).
Within the PTK sample, urine and self-taken swabs were found to have a different distribution of types (p = 0.032) with higher detection of HPV types 16, 56, 18, 51, and 45 in the self-taken swabs compared to urine.
Of the 162 MRSA positive screenings from dermatological patients, 21 (13 %) were from wound swabs, compared to only 1 of 111 positive episodes (1 %) among combined ID and HIV patients.
The unadjusted odds of detection of high-risk HPV positivity was reduced for the self taken swabs compared to the LBC samples (OR = 0.59 (95% CI: 0.45, 0.76), p = 0.001) and similarly for the urine samples (OR = 0.34 (95% CI: 0.26, 0.44), p < 0.0001) (Table 3).
Because a recent study noted excellent sensitivity and specificity (>90%) for rectal swab specimens compared to stool culture for detecting FQ-resistant E. coli (20), subsequent rectal swab samples were obtained at monthly intervals to identify changes in colonization status.
The sensitivity and the specificity of tests performed with capillary blood samples absorbed onto swab devices compared to tests performed with venous blood samples were 86.8%95%5% confidence interval [CI], 71.9%–95.6%; 33/38 patients) and 100%9595% CI, 84.6%–100%; 22/22 patients), respectively (Table 1).
Regardless of the sampling site, a calculated 4.8 times higher viral load (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.3 17, p = 0.017) was obtained using the nylon flocked swabs as compared to the rayon swabs.
The 45 study participants who received the pdm flu vaccine and mailed a swab later showed less frequent detection (6/45) of coronavirus RNA (p = 0.03), but showed a higher percentage (14/45) of rhinovirus RNA (p = 0.01) in their nasal swabs as compared to the 139 study participants who chose not to get vaccinated but mailed a swab due to symptoms of ILI (44/139).
