The frontal positivity elicited by faces appears similar to the late positive potential (LPP)—a sustained positivity in the ERP following emotional compared to neutral stimuli [25], [ 26], [ and 27].
The Late Positive Potential (LPP), at Pz with 0.1 Hz high-pass filtering, assessed sustained positivity in the cortical response to picture viewing (Hajcak, MacNamara, & Olvet, 2010; Palomba, Angrilli, & Mini, 1997).
Sustained positivity comes from meaning-making: our ability to find purpose and value within and across our daily activities.
Each trial type was characterised by a sustained positivity over the frontal areas (120 300 ms), followed by a sustained positivity over the parietal/occipital electrodes (300 ms onwards), which appeared to persist for longer on task-switch trials.
This was the result of an initial switch-related positivity over the central, centroparietal and parietal trios [ps<0.031], from 400 480 ms, followed by a more sustained positivity over the centroparietal and parietal electrodes [ps<0.033] until 920 ms, and finally just over the parietal electrodes from 920 1000 ms [ps<0.031].
As a consequence, the contrast of wakefulness (i.e., the difference between wake and sleep trials; Figure 3B) revealed a trend for an early negativity, suggesting a stronger early LRP under wake conditions, and a significant and sustained positivity for the late component, reflecting a delayed LRP during sleep.
As a new academic year gets under way, it could also help you improve your outlook – and sustain that positivity.
A sustained 2.5% positivity rate in an area with average acceptance rates will result in a 25% greater demand for colonoscopy in that screening centre compared with the national average.
A sustained posterior positivity was observed in all conditions of the task with reduced P300 amplitude at posterior electrode sites in the psychotic symptoms group relative to the control group.
In a summary of previous research, Marchand et al. [ 37] state that the most consistent finding in the literature is the elicitation of a sustained parietal positivity (i.e. P300) to the probe (irrespective of whether the probe type is positive or negative) with an increase in latency as memory set size increases.
Reduced amplitude for the later part of the P300 component at high load indicates that, unlike the control group, the psychotic symptoms group did not show the same level of sustained parietal positivity to the probe at the more difficult levels of the task which other evidence supports [ 37].
