Initial findings from a major five-year academic research study led by the University of York into the effectiveness of sanctions presented to MPs earlier this month [14 July] reported that despite widespread political support for increased welfare conditionality "the key issue of its effectiveness in changing and sustaining behaviour remains largely unanswered".
This self-efficacy has been an important factor in sustaining behaviour changes.
Multiple mechanisms for triggering and sustaining behaviour change were thus incorporated within the intervention.

Readiness for making and sustaining behaviour change, a measure of patient activation, has been linked with subsequent metabolic control in adults with diabetes [ 23], with subsequent behaviour in a clinical trial amongst adolescents with type 1 diabetes [ 24], and with adolescents' readiness to make changes in the balance of responsibility for diabetes management with their parents [ 25].
We hypothesize that simultaneous initiation of pump and CGM will be more effective than standard pump therapy with initiation of CGM 6 months later, and that this is related to greater readiness for making and sustaining behaviour change at the time of pump initiation.
"Downstream" interventions (which rely solely on individuals making and sustaining behaviour change) may therefore be more likely to be taken up by those who are of higher SEP and are more likely to widen the health gap between rich and poor.
Behaviour change for the environment has been approached on a societal level through, for example, provision of information, policies, legislations, or enforcements, often with limited success in terms of desired behavioural outcomes and particularly sustained behaviour change is rarely achieved [ 17].
