In a previous study (Coomes and Allen [2007]) and (Seifert et al. [2011]) used local basal area to describe crowding as a surrogate for below ground competition because a) it also includes the trees that are smaller than the reference tree and b) the circle of influence is not too big, so that close neighbours exert the crowding effect.
8 P.M. (TCM) 31 DAYS OF OSCAR The countdown continues with films set in Texas, starting with "Red River" (1948), the Howard Hawks western about a tyrannical cattleman (John Wayne) and his surrogate son (Montgomery Clift, below right, with Wayne) who have a falling out during a cattle drive.
Several steps are taken to deal with this problem, including haplotype library imputation (described below), using information from multiple surrogates, and removal of surrogates that break certain rules (described below).
Prefilter ionized calcium remained within narrow ranges (before after change +0.07 ± 0.006 mmol L), and total-to-ionized calcium ratio, a surrogate marker for citratemia, was unchanged and always below 2.5.

Its work is particularly pertinent to the questions mentioned below in the Discussion section, regarding the use of surrogates, both to interpolate given existing data and to design future surveys.
