Analysts polled by Reuters expected data due on Thursday to show that the surplus had grown to 2 billion Australian dollars, or $2.15 billion, in April from 1.74 billion dollars in March as the recovery continues.
The announcement said the surplus had grown by a projected $21.4 million in December alone, mostly from the collection of income taxes on profits made by residents in the financial markets.
All of these were in surplus already, and now the mountains of surplus have grown to the sky.
But those surpluses have grown only because Washington has been deadlocked by divided government, unable to agree on what to do with the windfall.
