Control PLGA microparticles (ie, not surface modified), coloured red via the incorporation of Oil-Red-O dye to aid visualisation during manipulation in these experiments, demonstrated no adhesion to the vitreous and were almost completely removed following consecutive washes with PBS (figure 4A).
