Our XPS results (Table S2, Supporting Information) do not show any reduction in the zinc concentration in vacuum-annealed samples compared with only air-annealed ones; if anything there is evidence for a small increase in zinc concentration upon vacuum annealing.
CCM3-depleted cells were clonogenic, but did not form foci when allowed to grow to confluence (Fig. S1B, C, Supporting information), and did not accumulate the cdk inhibitors p21cip1 or p16ink4a (Fig. S1D, E, Supporting information).
Similarly, depletion of macrophages after treatment with Carrageenan had a strong impact on bacterial killing during the acute phase (Fig S3C of Supporting information) but did not alter the course of infection in long-term (28 days p.i). infected animals (Fig S3D of Supporting information).
