Group 2 5 MglA proteins are exclusively encoded in bacterial genomes with the exception of a few archaeal sequences predicted to have been acquired through horizontal gene transfer (supplementary table S2, Supplementary Material online).
Xeno-COGs recovered by Prunier were enriched in various carbohydrate metabolic processes, whereas sparsely distributed xeno-COGs with less than five members showed strong enrichment of GO 0015074 (DNA-integration), consistent with the inference of their transfer (supplementary table S6, Supplementary Material online).
Similarly, we found no change in predictive power when excluding genomic segments suspected to be derived from horizontal gene transfer (supplementary fig. S12, Supplementary Material online).
This dramatic case seems to result from XGD (Koonin et al. 2001; Koonin 2005) whereby evolutionary histories of apparent orthologs in closely related organisms involve different routes of horizontal gene transfer (supplementary fig. S2, Supplementary Material online).
Of the recipient mothers, five pregnancies were established and one miscarriage occurred 80 days after embryo transfer (Supplementary information, Table S1).
Remarkably, Xist transcripts were efficiently spliced after nuclear transfer (Supplementary Figure S4C).
