However, it might have been the case that the task was equally more difficult for both, control children and children with ADHD, as supplementary task switching between pro- and antisaccades is required [ 12, 51], thus concealing group effects.
However, automated spatial match/non match to position protocols in traditional operant chambers have been hampered by the fact that rodents often adopt mediating strategies to improve their performance [12,13,32], even when a supplementary task is included between the sample and test runs [33].
These involve fighting on asteroids and outposts, or attacking enemy destroyers and stealing intel, technologies and weapons – apparently, there are certain weapons that will only be available if you take on these supplementary tasks, and these will make subsequent story missions easier to complete.
For various supplementary tasks, Fingerhut uses Photoshop and After Effects, and then Macro Express Pro and Everything for window juggling the "spawning, killing, resizing, and moving [of] computer windows for purely aesthetic purposes, to convey meaning, to screen record," and so on.
The part of the questionnaire reported here consisted of one main task (task A) and four supplementary tasks (tasks B to E).
Furthermore, other elements of the program such as developing improvement plans and implementing these plans were experienced as a heavy burden as these are supplementary tasks in addition to daily practice.
In addition, we ensured that different participants actually performed the same number of effortful responses (see Supplementary Material—Task description).
Before testing, participants were familiarized with the experimental procedures, including practice trials; visual aids were used where possible, to ensure the participant understood the task (Supplementary Fig. 1 and Supplementary material).
This pattern also emerged for analyzing the data separately for each task (Supplementary Material).
The analysis of learning from positive and negative feedback in our task (Supplementary material) suggests that in all conditions participants predominantly learned only from positive, rather than negative feedback.
Analyses of whole-brain contrasts were conducted on separate age groups so as to gauge the extent to which the different groups engaged the same or different regions in the recognition task (Supplementary Table 1 and Fig. 5).
