In addition, energy-dispersive X-ray spectrum (EDS, Supplementary Fig. 6) and elemental mapping in Fig. 1f evidence that the Fe and S elements with a ratio of 1 1 are uniformly distributed in the structure.
Viruses (in general) and marine viruses (in particular) can vary substantially in genome length and particle size and, consequently, in elemental content (Fig. 2 Supplementary information S1 (box)).
This supports the presence of 2D PVSK at grain boundaries, which was further confirmed by elemental distribution (EDS) analysis (Supplementary Fig. 24).
The carbon content was estimated to be approximately 5 wt% by elemental and thermal analyses (see Supplementary Table S8 and Fig. S5 online).
Therefore, the relatively coarse resolution of GRS and limited contribution from the MFF to GRS field of view causes a spatial dilution effect, which will underestimate the actual elemental enrichment in the MFF57,58 (Supplementary Fig. 8).
From the EDS elemental analysis shown in electronic supplementary information ( Additional file 1 Figure S2), we can easily predict that the sample is composed of Bi, V, O, and C.

Knowing the charge state and m/ z for that hypothetical peptide, the program predicts its mass and estimated its elemental composition using the "averagine" model (Supplementary Table 2).
Large portions of the planet may match the elemental chemistry of Martian dust in one or a few elements (Supplementary Fig. 5).
The final product, [Os3 CO 10 μ-H μ-S C9H6N], was confirmed by NMR, mass, elemental analysis IR and X-ray crystallography with MW=1011 (Supplementary Figure S1A).
