For the most represented neuron type in NeuroMorpho.Org, the pyramidal cell, in addition to several morphological sub-types in the main hierarchy (e.g., Betz, oblique, and star-pyramidal), a few supplementary conceptual dimensions were required to describe complementary properties (e.g., early- vs. late-bifurcating, thick- vs. slender-tufted).
The book then analyzes two different aspects of biological time: first, a supplementary temporal dimension to accommodate proper biological rhythms; secondly, the concepts of protension and retention as a means of local organization of time in living organisms.
