We found that SAG 63-9, when grown on our standard Polytomella medium (Sheeler et al. 1968), was conspicuously larger than strains from the three other known Polytomella lineages (Smith et al. 2010), had a visible eyespot, and was pinkish in color (supplementary fig. S3, Supplementary Material online)—presumably because of the carotenoids in the eyespot (Kreimer 2009).

It should be noted that several old specimens of wild-derived lines showed a macroscopic "aged" phenotype that comprises spinal curvature, emaciation and (in males) loss of color (Supplementary material, Fig. S2).
Patients and healthy study subjects did not differ significantly regarding self-attributed skin color (Supplementary Table S1).
Since the validity of a color-space mismatch depends on whether neighboring colors have been attributed to BINS, SOCS-B uses a dynamic programming table to compute the most probable methylation state for each cytosine based on the quality scores for each color (Supplementary Fig. S1).
However, no mitotic cells were observed in etoposide-treated synchronized cells, total number of the cells gradually decreased, and a large fraction of the cells had nuclei labeling with green color (Supplementary Movie S6), suggesting that etoposide-treated cells arrested at S and/or G2 phases.
It is, however, practically impossible to comprehend the complex relationships between all 5 components by direct visual comparison of the images of the separate components (as apparent from Fig. 1), by superimposing all possible two- or three-color combinations (Fig. 2A), or by superimposing all 5 colors (Supplementary Fig. S7).
Like all AnimEigo releases, the Tora-san set comes with extensive supplementary material and color-coded subtitles that offer cultural notes — brief explanations of customs, historical references or particularly recondite puns — as well as translations of dialogue.
It should be emphasized that the traditional practice of presenting the entire data in a single image, for example by superposition or ratio imaging [11], [22], is inadequate for imaging of more than 2 colors (Supplementary Fig. S7).
On average, we observed 0.8 trichromatic events per islet, including singlets and pairs of cells consisting of two adjacent cells with the same color signature (Supplementary Fig. 1C, D).
In this representation, we consider the edge energies and the flow directions as supplementary to pixel-wise color information.
