An important area for standardization is choice of media formulation and supplementary additives, including hormones, cofactors and antioxidants.
In the present study, it is the whole set of non-additive proteins in synthetic B. napus (335 in the stem and 205 in the root, that is to say almost four hundreds supplementary "non-additive" polypeptides) that has been identified by mass spectrometry, as well as an additional two hundred "additive" proteins per organ that constitute the "control" group.
Cisplatin alone did not have any significant effect on glutathione levels, while combination treatment with APR-246 and cisplatin resulted in more than additive effects (Supplementary Figure S4).
Once again, the effects of simultaneous knockdown of both FHL1 and FHL2 on HDAC5 phosphorylation were similar to the effects of selective FHL2 knockdown, with no indication of an additive effect (Supplementary Figure S2).
Among the nine SNPs genotyped in stage 3, the rs9948310 (18q11.2) located within the KCTD1 gene resulted in significant association (P = 5.70 × 10−4; OR = 0.78, additive model) (Supplementary Material, Table S2).

We also explored associations with EM and POI using dominant and recessive models for each the 17 menopause variants and found no evidence for any SNP acting in a non-additive fashion (Supplementary Material, Table S5).
In addition, we observed a similar pattern of joint effects (supplementary figure B, top) and additive interactions with unhealthy lifestyle factors (supplementary figure B, bottom) among women with preterm low birth weight and full term low birth weight.
