Studies were included if they met the following criteria: the study design was a prospective cohort study; the exposure of interest was intake of dietary magnesium or total magnesium (dietary and supplemental); the outcome of interest was incidence of type 2 diabetes; and the risk estimate of type 2 diabetes related to magnesium intake and associated 95% CI were reported.
No significant changes were observed in such components of experimental design as "independent variable/treatment," "quantity measured," and "expected outcomes" (Supplemental Figure S3).
A series of restricted models using the same specifications as the basic models, but with data on only those households included in the full models, yielded similar results to the basic models for all four outcomes (Supplemental Table 5).
