Ai designed a localized wakeup/sleep scheme to supplement the problem of activating sensors and it achieved a good performance [16].
The main idea is to supplement the problem by an inner system in which the independent variables are stretched out in order to capture the behavior in the neighborhood of the boundary.
On the other hand, it opens up the very real possibility that the results might be explained away as the result of "experimental demand" (essentially, the subjects deliberately trying to produce the results that they believe the experimenters want, regardless of the actual underlying cognitive processes involved – see Supplement: The Problem of Demand Characteristics in Imagery Experiments).
Thanks to Orne (1962) and others, psychologists today are very much more alert than they once were to the need to take account of the social psychology and social context of the experimental situation when working with human subjects (see supplement: The Problem of Demand Characteristics in Imagery Experiments).
